so, pretty much my criminal procedure professor essentially wrote psych fanfic as a quiz question…
Santa Barbara Chief Detective Carlton Lassiter sees Shawn Spencer make an illegal U-turn on a Santa Barbara street in Burton Guster’s car. He pulls Spencer over and tells him to stay in the car while he prepares a citation. He also radios for a police dog to come to the scene. K-9 officer Lawson promptly arrives with Fido, the narcotics-sniffing wonder dog. Detective Lassiter finishes writing out the ticket but does not give it to Spencer immediately. Instead he walks back to Guster’s car, waves the ticket, and says, “Shawn, I am going to get you this time.” Spencer says, “Lassie, I need to get the car back to Gus. Just give me the stupid ticket.” Detective Lassiter replies, “Oh no you don’t. You just stay put until Fido finishes.” One minute later, Fido alerts. Lassiter orders Spencer out of the car and asks if he can search the car. Spencer jumps up and down, yelling “I have a vision! I see … nothing in the car. Search away, Lassie.” Lassiter finds a box with drugs in it under the driver’s seat. As he removes the box from the car, Spencer says, “Lassie, I don’t know what is in that box, but you can’t use it in court anyway.”
